Can I stop my medicines if my numbers get better?

A weekly pill organiser, a doctor's clipboard and a golden speech bubble with a tick
Text:

Please do not stop or reduce a prescribed medicine on your own, even when your blood sugar, blood pressure or cholesterol has improved. The improvement is often the medicine working, not proof that you no longer need it.

Lifestyle changes can make a real difference to these numbers, and sometimes a doctor will lower a dose because of them. That decision belongs to the doctor who prescribed the medicine, after looking at your latest reports.

If your numbers are improving, take the reports to your doctor and ask whether the plan should change.
